September 20-26, 2020
September 20 – Your flight departs the US. We suggest Delta to JFK in New York and then Delta connecting to Reykjavik.
September 21 – Upon arrival, we will meet at the airport and transfer to breakfast. We will follow that with a trip to the Blue Lagoon for a swim in the warm waters. After a relaxing morning, our guide and coach will take us into town, and we will have an afternoon walking about and seeing Reykjavik and dinner together at the hotel. September 22 – The Golden Circle, Greenhouse and Viking Horses! Today tour will bring you to Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the location of Iceland’s Parliament between the years 930 and 1798. It is also one of the few places in the world where you can clearly see the effects of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates pulling apart. For lunch, we will stop at a family-owned farm, where they grow tomatoes all year round, despite Iceland’s long, dark winters, using artificial lighting in greenhouses. We will be able to enjoy their famous tomato soup with freshly baked bread. After lunch we will get the chance to visit the Icelandic Horse, which is known for its diversity of gaits, coat colors, strength, health, and good spirit. You will be invited to the stable where you get a presentation about the horse and a horse show where one rider will show you all the gaits. Then, we will make our way to the Geothermal area of Geyser a hot spring that gave its name to the phenomenon worldwide. There are many hot springs in this area and the most popular attraction is without a doubt Strokkur which erupts every few minutes. We will also visit the beautiful Gullfoss or The Golden Waterfall often considered to be the most beautiful waterfall in the country. As Hotel Rangá is located in a rural area so light pollution is not an issue during the winter months. By turning off our external lights the hotel can provide optimal conditions to view the night sky either stargazing or Aurora watching if the forecast is good.

September 23 – Black Sand Beaches, Cascading Waterfalls & Katla Ice Dome – After breakfast, we will head out and drive along the South Coast of Iceland, where you’ll take in some of the country’s most dramatic scenery. On one side, tall mountains with a
succession of waterfalls cascading from the glaciers above, while on the other, views of the North Atlantic coastline with its black sand beaches and dramatic headlands. We will visit Reynisfjara black lava beach, which is widely regarded as the most impressive black sand and pebble beach in Iceland and features an amazing cliff of regular basalt columns resembling a rocky step pyramid. We will then jump on to our Super Jeep and head further east, strap on your crampons and step into the mighty Katla Glacier. You will walk among grand ice walls and enter the magical blue and black ice dome of the outlet glacier named after the powerful volcano Katla. Prepare to be amazed! On our way back we will the beautiful waterfalls called Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss, a waterfall that you can walk behind. Hotel Ranga – Breakfast and lunch
September 24 -Black Sand ATV Reykjanes Peninsula – Today we will travel south towards the Reykjanes Peninsula, the moon-like landscape of the peninsula is filled with energy and boosts endless lava, craters, geysers, bubbling mud pots, small fishing villages, power plants and the exotic Blue Lagoon. We will start the day with an unforgettable ATV tour on beautiful Black Sand Beach by Þorlákshöfn. Shoot across the Black Sand Beach on an ATV/Quad bike and an inland trail in between lyme grass-covered dunes. After lunch we will make our way back to Reykjavík along the dramatic coastline of the Reykjanes Peninsula where the North Atlantic waves crash against bird cliffs and rocky volcanic beaches.
Arrive in Reykjavík in the afternoon.
Dinner is not included tonight you are free to stroll around the city and have dinner on your own.
September 25 – Borgarfjörður Valley & Into the Glacier Today, your private guide will pick you up in the morning. Together you will head out of the city and drive through the farmlands of Borgarfjordur, sometimes referred to as saga land. The area is famous for its beautiful nature and rich history and many of Iceland´s best-known sagas take place in the area. We will visit to the amazing cascading Hraunfossar waterfalls and walk through the steam-shrouded geothermal fields surrounding nearby Deildartunguhver, Europe’s most voluminous hot spring by the hot spring. We will make our way towards Langjökull Glacier, where you will embark on a
snowmobile ride across the surface of Iceland’s second-largest glacier and venturing down the largest man-made ice tunnel in the world. Truly an amazing adventure. Back to our hotel and a farewell dinner together.
September 26 – we depart with one early transfer provided to airport.
