,Queen Elizabeth II called Bordeaux “the Essence of Elegance” and many call it the most beautiful city in France……. we hope you will agree and of course, why go to France without a visit to Paris!
Depart US for Bordeaux. You can fly into Bordeaux with a connection or take a train from Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris. Airfare is not included in the package costs.
Arrive Bordeaux and transfer to our hotel, The InterContinental. Tonight we will get together for cocktails.
After breakfast included daily at the hotel, we will begin a walking tour of Bordeaux. A jewel or 18th century architecture with a rich past we will see the Palais de la Bourse, the Grand Theater and villas and mansions. Bordeaux is known for several French delicacies and we will stop along the way to enjoy some.
After lunch we will visit some of the wineries of the Pessac/Leognan wine area outside the city. Biking will be arranged for those who want to bike into the vineyards.
Today we will meet our tour guide for a tour of the nearby town of St. Emilion, one of the most picturesque in France. You cannot be in St. Emilion without wine and cheese tastings and this will be an enjoyable morning.
This afternoon back to Bordeaux for some free shopping time and a visit to the artistic, special video and audio presentation of the works of artists Gustav Klimt and Paul Klee at the Bassins de Lumieres.
“Located in Bordeaux’s former submarine base, the Bassins de Lumières will present monumental immersive digital exhibitions devoted to the major artists in the history of art and contemporary art. The submarine base’s surface area is three times the size of that of the Carrières de Lumières in Les
Baux-de-Provence and five times that of the Atelier des Lumières in Paris. The digital exhibitions will be perfectly adapted to the monumental architecture of the submarine base and will be reflected in the water of the four enormous basins, thereby adding a new dimension to the immersive experience. Visits will be conducted on gangways above the water and along the quays of the enormous basins.
This morning we will check out of our hotel and take a train directly to Paris. Upon arrival we will transfer to Hotel le Saint in the prestigious St. Germaine area of France, for our next three nights.
This afternoon we will visit the Jacquemart-Andre Museum, which houses the most beautiful private art collection in Paris.
A very special visit to the most beautiful of chateaus in the countryside, Vaux le Vicomte. Vaux is the estate of Nicolas Fouquet, finance minister under Louis XIVand is a modern and elegant masterpiece of the 17th century which no other chateau can compete with. The gardens as well as the castle and the dome will be included in our visit.
This afternoon, after returning to Paris, we will visit the Yves Saint Laurent Foundation. “In 1974, the Yves Saint Laurent haute couture house, which had been located at 30 bis rue Spontini since it was established in 1961, moved to a hôtel particuliar at 5 avenue Marceau dating back to the Second Empire. Yves Saint Laurent would go on to spend nearly thirty years there pursuing his career as a couturier.
During a press conference on January 7, 2002, Saint Laurent announced his intention to cease his career as a couturier and close the haute couture house. Two years later following an extensive renovation of the building, the Foundation Pierre Bergé – Yves Saint Laurent opened its doors.“
Our last day in Paris will be free for exploration or if this is your first visit we will be happy to make reservations for you to visit a location you have wanted to visit, The Louvre, The Eiffel Tower, or another location.
For those who would like to visit the famous Flea Market of Paris to see vintage jewelry, clothes, or just walk through the stalls, we will ask for you to let us know ahead of time and we will make arrangements for your transport. (not included in the costs of the trip.)
Our favorite free day is an early visit to Montmartre to see the artists booths and wander the tiny streets. We will also make time for a visit to The Marais, and Ile St. Louis. We welcome all who want to “wander” along with us on our favorite day in Paris.
Early this evening we will gather for cocktails and have dinner together!
Sadly we say au revoir till next time and depart for the airport. One departure transfer to CDG.
